Alegria to play La Dolfina in Argentine Open final
Alegria to play La Dolfina in Argentine Open final
Defending champions Ellerstina out of the Open
La Dolfina and Alegria will meet in the final of the Argentine Open on Saturday.
Fred Mannix’s 34-goal Alegria side, which also features Polito Pieres, Hilario Ulloa and Lucas Monteverde, overcame defending champions Ellerstina 19-15 to claim their spot in the final, becoming the first team other than Ellerstina and La Dolfina to feature in the Open final since 2006.
But La Dolfina made certain of their place in the final for the ninth year in a row, with a 20-13 win over La Natividad yesterday. However, they could be without their full line-up for Saturday’s final, with an injured finger to Juan Martin Nero putting him in doubt for the final. In the event that he is unable to play the final, he will be replaced by Sebastian Merlos, who will play alongside the remaining La Dolfina team of Adolfo Cambiaso, Pablo MacDonough and Pelon Stirling.
The 120th Argentine Open final will be played at Palermo at 4.30pm local time (7.30pm UK time) on Saturday 7 December.
