Adolfo Cambiaso Wins the Most Important Sport Prize in Argentina (2014)
Adolfo Cambiaso (+10, Team La Dolfina) has been presented with the Golden Olimpia Award for Athlete of the Year, the most important sports prize in Argentina, on Tuesday, 16th December. Cambiaso is the second polo player to receive this honour. Juan Carlos Harriott, member of the legendary Coronel Suárez team, had been the first one in 1976 to accept this top-class award.
During his speech, Cambiaso thanked his wife Maria, his three team members as well as La Dolfina and dedicated the award to La Dolfina’s coach Milo Fernández Araujo. Cambiaso had a phenomenal season including impressive victories as well in Argentina as in the rest of the world. At the beginning of December, the 10-goaler made polo history by winning the 2014 Argentine Triple Crown: Just as Coronel Suárez (in 1974 and 1976), La Dolfina has won the Argentine Triple Crown – consisting of Tortugas, Hurlingham and Argentine Open – for the second consecutive year.
The Olimpia Award is presented each year by the Argentine Sports Journalist Circle (Círculo de Periodistas Deportivos de Argentina) since 1954. When it came to who should win the 2014 Golden Olimpa Award, there where also names such as Lionel Messi, Emanuel Ginóbili, María López and Luciana Aymar.
