The bond between a horse and its rider
Polo is full of action, adrenaline and also a real connection to nature. What makes polo truly a unique and incredible sport to play is the intense conncection and bond between the horse and its rider.
Horses and humans… we are very similar!
We may not look like it but horses and humans actually share a lot of things that make this bond much more special. We can both communicate emotions and feel empathy, learn to trust, show stress, learn by observation and require social relationships to be healthy.
The Art of Non-Verbal Human-Horse Communication
Despite horses and humans not sharing the same language, we can still communicate with each other in effective ways. Horses are incredibly intelligent beings that can pick up on a lot of non-verbal cues that us humans give them.
They are capable of understanding our moods and emotions, whether we are feeling happy, sad, confident, nervous or relaxed. And they can communicate with us too through the movement and position of their ears.
How to create a bond with your horse
When it comes to developing the bond between a horse and its rider, it really comes down to spending time together. Trust and patience are key to achieve this. An overall gentle kindness and care for the horse’s wellbeing in every interaction will stay in their memory for a long time, allowing you to gain their trust.
Knowing their name, understanding non-verbal ways of communicating and your horses personality will ensure a safe space for the two of you to bond.
